I didn’t think it would ever happen but it finally farkkin’ly has!  Freecycle is volleying one to their darker, stranger, and dare we say more interesting compadre Freakcycle.  Yes.

We’ve documented many petty jealousies, competitions, and grumblings about our world-recognized nemesis but one of their moderators is tossing us a biscuit…tiny, stale and a tad gnawed around the edges but thank you Freecycle all the same.  

All you Debbie Downers on Freecycle, quit your bellysniping about used catheters, tires, grandma’s old teeth and peculiar animal bits. Someone besides us wants them too.  

Hi everyone,

i’m sure many people had thoughts about used underwear, whether
privately or publicly. i’d like to ask that we move past this and
also ask that people report problems to the mods–there’s no need to
argue on the message board.

We are a large, diverse group in one of the world’s largest and most
diverse cities. We are united by our desire to see less waste in our
city, and our ability to maintain this gifting system relies on our
ability to be respectful towards one another.

With regard to what’s appropriate to post or not, we all have our
limits on what we’ll reuse. Every post about underwear reaps a
few “ewww” comments to the mods, but i’ve seen ’em on sale in thrift
stores and i know a lot of ladies on this list appreciate the bras
that are given away (they’re expensive)! In the same way one might
see a taxidermied animal as offensive while another sees it as a
kitschy stage prop, let’s understand that we all have needs and
limits. If you don’t want it, skip over it, but if it can be reused
and help someone out, is it for us to judge?

Yes, there are things that are inappropriate for this list–drugs,
adult movies, etc and the mods work to enforce those rules. But if
our goal is to reduce the enormity of Nxx Xxxx’s waste, let’s foster,
not stifle that mission.

Which Freecycler Gets Your Vote?

 I have a small dilemma and want you to decide who gets today’s Freak of the Week award.  The first one made me throw up in my mouth a little bit and the second one…I am all about the environment and recycling, but isn’t this going a bit far?

• looking for fast pickup
  Bunch of brown thin braids(about footlong each)-can be used for maybe costumes? I think this was part of extensions that were sewn to the head

Fly on the Wall

I’ve always been nosy.  Not in an obvious way.  I’m all super James Bond 007 styley, sitting in a cafe, my face behind a book but all the while taking in every word you say while you’re eating your banana muffin and arguing with your girlfriend.  I always want to know more, but I never show it, even if I’m dying inside.

Freecycle has afforded me a tiny luxury…I get hundreds of tidbits every day, snippets of people’s negotiations.  They post their unwanteds and ask for the things they yearn to have or absolutely think they need.

Some of these posts intrigue me but I want the back stories.  I decided to share some of them and if you like these and want me to post more, let me know.

• Wanted tongue depressor for a church project. Can pick up in Holmdel and surrounding areas. Thank you for your consideration.

• Ride on Butterscotch, doesn’t walk but eats carrots and whinnies. Poor Butterscotch is missing his ear and his tail, could possibly be fixed!Let me know when you can pick up. Mary

• MY 84 YEAR OLD MOM BOWLS 3 TIMES A WEEK, SHE NEEDS TO SWITCH TO LEFT HAND – SHE CAN’T USE HER RIGHT HAND TO BOWL ANYMORE. Best regards, Pat

• Hi – I am looking for a 3 wheeler adult bicycle for my in-laws to ride for exercise when they come up for a visit in a couple of weeks. They are in their 70’s and their balance isn’t so good. • Found this on our lawn – good tire with good tread remaining.Probably fell off of someone’s SUV while driving by – we notified the Holmdel Police Department and no one claimed it so they told us we could do whatever – now I just want it out of the way.If you need/want please just let me know!Thx Kim

Not Suitable for Skin

I’m exploring soapmaking with the excess glycerin from biodiesel production. I’d prefer some with the methanol removed already.

I anticipate making laundry and dish soap, engine cleaner, and the like – probably not suitable for skin.

Will share the fruits of my labor when I achieve success!
